Family Reunification Visa for Albania

If you hold a residence or work permit in Albania, you can apply for your spouse and children to join you legally. The family reunification visa is the entry path — after arrival, family members apply for their own residence permits. We guide you through every step.

Who Can Sponsor Family Reunification?

To sponsor family members, you (the sponsor) must hold a valid and current Albanian residence or work permit. Short-term visitors on visa-free stays cannot sponsor family reunification. In practice, most sponsors hold one of the following:

  • A temporary residence permit (any category)
  • A unique permit (combined work and residence)
  • A self-employment residence permit tied to a registered company

The sponsor must also demonstrate sufficient accommodation for the family in Albania — a rental agreement or property title in your name is the standard proof.

Who Can Be Reunited?

Albanian immigration law recognises the following categories of family members eligible for reunification:

  • Spouse — legally married partners. A marriage certificate, apostilled and translated, is required.
  • Minor children — unmarried children under 18. Birth certificates, apostilled and translated, are required for each child.
  • Adult dependent children — unmarried children over 18 who are full-time students or who cannot support themselves due to disability; subject to case-by-case review.
  • Dependent parents — in limited circumstances where the sponsor is the primary means of financial support; assessed individually.

Required Documents

The document set has two parts: documents the sponsor submits in Albania, and documents your family members must present at the Albanian embassy in their home country.

Sponsor (in Albania):

  • Valid Albanian residence permit
  • Proof of accommodation (rental contract or property title)
  • Proof of financial means (payslips, bank statements, or company accounts)
  • Health insurance covering the family members
  • Marriage and/or birth certificates (apostilled + translated)

Family members (at embassy/consulate abroad):

  • Valid passport
  • Marriage or birth certificate (apostilled + certified Albanian translation)
  • Completed visa application form
  • Passport photographs
  • Proof that sponsor holds valid Albanian residence
  • Health insurance for duration of visa
  • Criminal record certificate (for adults)

The Process Step by Step

  1. Sponsor preparation — we compile the full sponsor document package in Albania and certify translations
  2. Embassy application — your family applies for a Type D (long-stay) visa at the Albanian embassy or consulate in Turkey or Azerbaijan
  3. Entry into Albania — once the visa is approved, family members travel to Albania
  4. Residence permit application — within 30 days of arrival, family members apply for their own residence permits through e-Albania
  5. Permit issuance — family members receive their residence permit cards, typically within 30 to 60 days of the in-country application

Timeline

Allow 6 to 12 weeks from the start of document preparation to having the full family in Albania with valid permits. Embassy processing times vary; Albanian embassies in Ankara and Istanbul typically process family visa applications within 2 to 4 weeks.
